Coming from Montez's 2.6 hectares in the southern part of Cote Rotie and incorporating 6-12% Viognier, the 2011 Cote Rotie Fortis is another gorgeous 2011 from this young vigneron. Kirsch, black raspberry, smoked duck, licorice and hints of soy all emerge from the glass, and it's medium to full-bodied, supple and sexy on the palate, with lots of fruit. It too should be consumed over the coming decade or so.

I had a fantastic visit with winemaker Stephan Montez, and this top-notch estate fashions a bevy of brilliant Condrieu and Côte Rôtie. During the visit, I was able to do a vertical of each of his Côte Rôties (the les Grandes Places back to '97) but didn't have time to get those reviews into this report. I'll publish those reviews as a stand alone article at a later date.
